Include the Basement in Your 2016 Remodeling Plans with these 8 Great Ideas

The basement is one of the best areas of the home to remodel because there are so many possibilities. Keep these ideas in mind if you’re remodeling other areas of your home; you may decide to include the basement after all. A finished basement is less expensive to remodel than it is to build it out from scratch, so you can make a lot of changes for a relatively small investment. Take a look at these 8 great ideas for remodeling the basement.

  1. Egress Windows: This is the most expensive thing on our list, so we’ll start here. Egress windows offer a wonderful way to add natural light and unique play areas or seating within the basement.
  2. Built-in Storage: Hide your storage behind fake walls. There’s absolutely no reason your basement can’t still serve as your primary climate controlled storage area and become something pretty amazing in the process.
  3. A Nook for Everyone: Hidden storage in the walls provides a unique opportunity for all basements. Create a nook on every wall or in every corner to act as a little privacy area for various members of the family. Their nook can be decorated as they see fit.
  4. Fireplace: Build a fireplace for both warmth and ambient lighting. Consider building a fireplace with built-in storage or built-in seating.
  5. Cozy Atmosphere: Make it warm and inviting. Create an area that you can truly use for relaxation. Add carpeting, a comfortable sofa, some large pillows and a few lamps or sconces for lighting.
  6. Craft Room: Many people enjoy some type of crafting. Painting, sewing, and scrapbooking are a few popular crafts that take up a lot of space and time. Ample storage is required in order to keep things neat and organized. Create an entire craft room with an amazing table and built-in storage to keep everything organized and within reach.
  7. Home Gym: We’re not talking about a few pieces of equipment. Let’s build a nice home gym complete with a mirror, balance bar, equipment, and some free-weights. Just be careful and always use a spotter. Make 2016 the year you finally buckle down and get healthy.
  8. Rock Climbing Wall: Why not? Top off your home gym with an amazing rock wall. It doesn’t have to be huge to be challenging. Even a 10 or 12 foot rock climbing wall can be pretty challenging.

The basement doesn’t have to be just another boring area of the home. Make it something that you can really enjoy.
